Whoopi Goldberg Partners with Marijuana Maven to Launch Pot Products

Whoopi Goldberg announced on Wednesday that she has joined Maya Elisabeth of the all-female collective Om Edibles to launch a new medical marijuana company, which will offer a line of products designed to provide relief for menstrual cramps.

According to Vanity FairThe View co-host wanted to create “a product for women that was discreet, provided relief and wouldn’t leave you glued to the couch.” The brand, Whoopi & Maya, will offer edibles, tinctures, topical rubs and THC-infused bath soaks, in addition to CBD-only products.

“For me, I feel like if you don’t want to get ‘high high,’ this is a product specifically just to get rid of discomfort,” Goldberg explained. “Smoking a joint is fine, but most people can’t smoke a joint and go to work.”

“This, you can put it in your purse,” she continued. “You can put the rub on your lower stomach and lower back at work, and then when you get home you can get in the tub for a soak or make tea, and it allows you to continue to work throughout the day.”

Goldberg, who has been open about her own medical marijuana use in the past, said that she was looking for relief for her daughter and two granddaughters who inherited her “horrific menstrual cramps.”

“Being a pot smoker for years, I talked to a lot of men in the marijuana business about developing something for period relief, and they always came back with ‘That’s too niche a market,’” Goldberg told Glamour.

But Elisabeth told USA Today that with “niche” products that target 50 percent of the population, she believes the company is ripe for success.
